Don't Ignore Depression

Postpartum depression has certainly gained its share of attention in the public's and professional's eyes with states from Oregon to New York implementing legislation in recent years to encourage screening for the problem.   We are learning that Pregnancy alone, is a large risk factor to the clinically depressed patient.  From chemical to hormonal changes during pregnancy, the writing of a recent article, argues against portraying pregnancy as a glowing, ecstatic time. Whether a woman is depressed or not pregnancy "involves a major shift in identity, a whole new conception of self that can lead to depression and anxiety."

Lynne Feigenbaum, LCSW specializes in treating women with emotional difficulties and concerns resulting from their reproductive lives. For the past sixteen years, she has worked with women who sought help while undergoing infertility treatments, following a miscarriage or stillbirth, or when suffering from pre/post natal mood and anxiety disorders. Lynne has a MA and MSW from New York University as well as postgraduate training in child and adolescent psychoanalysis from the National Institute of the Psychotherapies in New York City. She is currently in private practice in Basalt.
